Samsung Galaxy S2?

It is thought that Samsung will be launching a follow-up to the Galaxy S smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February, with current industry rumours suggesting it will be a modified version of the Nexus S.

This rumour has permeated the media before but now the Galaxy S2 has resurfaced in a series of leaks that include an artist’s impression of what the handset might look like. It may be a fairly nondescript graphical representation, but, according to MobileCrunch, it could well be the sleek new look for the Galaxy S replacement.

In terms of specs the Galaxy S2 will allegedly sport a Near Field Communications (NFC) chip, just like the Nexus S, along with Android 2.3 to make the idea of a swift Samsung rebranding sound quite believable.

What will make the Galaxy S2 distinct from the Nexus S, if the rumours are to be believed, is its dual core processor. This will help it to remain competitive against the likes of the LG Optimus 2X and could quickly consign the Google-branded Nexus S to the list of obsolete smartphones.

Upping the screen size to 4.3 inches compared to the Nexus S’ four inch Super AMOLED display, will be another benefit of owning a Galaxy S2.
