Google Nexus SGoogle is set to launch its second own-brand smartphone, the Nexus S, in the UK on the 20th of December, just days before Christmas.

Reports suggest that it will be making an appearance via both Best Buy and the Carphone Warehouse upon its arrival, with a variety of deals in store and pre-orders set to start four days ahead of its arrival.

The Google Nexus S sports the same four inch Super AMLED display as found on the Samsung Galaxy S and Omnia 7. It also has a five megapixel camera with HD video capture combined with a 1GHz processor and up to 16GB of onboard storage.

What makes the Google Nexus S so important is the fact that it will arrive with version 2.3 of the Android operating system onboard. This will have new features including NFC (near field communication) that will allow owners to turn their smartphones into a digital wallet.

It is good to see that Google is set to expand its own brand range of handsets and even though the original Nexus One did not sell as well as hoped, its successor looks to have a wealth of features that could make it a hit.
