Samsung Galaxy PlayerThe Consumer Electronics Show will be home to many product launches and now it looks like Samsung is planning to expand its Galaxy range of smartphones and portable tablets with a four inch mini-tab next month.

The rumoured Samsung Galaxy Player will feature a four inch touchscreen display which will be the same size as that of the Galaxy S or Nexus S, but will use standard LCD technology rather than coveted Super AMOLED.

The device will run version 2.2 of the Android operating system and will be powered by a 1GHz processor. A 3.2 megapixel camera on the rear will be supplemented by a forward-facing camera, presumably for video calling.

Reports from Samsung Hub suggest that the Galaxy Player is getting Android Market access, just like the other devices in the Galaxy range.

The Galaxy Player looks set to take on the iPod Touch just like the Galaxy Tab assaulted the iPad earlier in 2010. There is no word on whether the device will sport 3G connectivity, which would be enough to make it a fully-featured mobile phone, but with CES just days away there is not long to wait until it emerges in full.
