The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, otherwise known as the Playstation Phone, is going to arrive in the UK this April, according to network provider Orange.
Orange will be stocking the Xperia Play upon its UK launch, as will rival network O2 and both firms used social media to announce the handset earlier this week.
Vodafone was the first UK network off the mark to publicise the fact that it will be promoting Sony Ericsson’s gaming-focused Android smartphone, which means that almost all of the big five providers will be offering it to customers, as T-Mobile is now merged with Orange.
At the moment, network provider Three has still not committed to the Xperia Play but it seems that it would be remiss of it to duck out on this occasion, as this mobile looks to be hotly anticipated, if only by the operators.
There has been thinly veiled scepticism aimed at the Xperia Play in the media, with some mooting the implicit message that it is not going to offer gamers enough functionality, while alienating those who have little interest in its hardcore prowess. However, with PlayStation One game emulation and full physical controls it has promising foundations.
